5 time-saving content creation tips (for busy business owners)

Remember these time-saving content creation tips for when there’s just not enough hours in the day

If you know how powerful social media can be for getting your business out in the world and in front of the right eyes, but you just don’t have the time to spend posting every day, you’re not alone. If time is scarce, but you still want to be active on social media as a business, these are our top 5 time-saving content creation tips for making the most of your time.

5 time-saving content creation tips social media marketing ideas

1. Batch your content

To be successful on social media, you do need to post consistently. However, if you’ve set a goal for posting three times a week on your brand’s social channels, that doesn’t mean you need to spend three days a week making the content.

The most efficient content creators and social media managers are planning ahead and batching their content. If you come up with a clear plan for what you want to post each week, then set aside a one-off, dedicated block of time to film, photograph, and edit the content you need all in one go, you’ll be way more prepared.

2. Turn one idea into multiple pieces of content

One of the biggest oversights businesses have when posting on social media is that one good idea = one social media post.

If you’ve had a great idea for a reel, you could easily recreate that same reel as a carousel post. If you’ve written an in-depth blog post, you could take each of the points made and turn those into mini reels. If you’ve got a few posts on Instagram, you could feature these as highlights in your newsletter.

Repurposing your old ideas and pieces of content is not ‘cheating’, so really milk that great concept or top performing reel.

3. Keep a content ideas list on the go

Inspiration can spark at anytime. One of the best ways to make sure you’ve got a constant bank of inspiration to pull from is by making sure you have a place to capture ideas before you forget them.

Whether it’s on your notes app, a notepad on your desk, voicenotes to yourself, or a task management tool (our favourite is Trello) - don’t let those lightbulb thoughts that hit you in the shower, on the dog walk, or in the gym get away from you.

You’ll thank yourself when you sit down to create content and have all those gems written down as starting points.

4. Create a repeatable format

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. This can totally apply to your social media content. If you’ve tested a few different formats and find that your audience love a certain type of post - whether that’s the recipe reels you share, a new series you’ve started on your channels, or a particular team member that resonates with your followers. If something is working, you don’t need to tie yourself in knots trying to think of brand new ideas all the time.

If you’ve found something that works, don’t be afraid to rinse and repeat the same format, changing up the subject, product, or person in the content each day, week, or month.

5. Stop trying to be perfect

Finally, one of the easiest time-saving content creation tips is to let go of perfectionism.

It is tempting to overthink a piece of content when you’ve worked so hard on it.

  • Writing and re-writing the caption over and over.

  • Taking hours to decide on the right song.

  • Leaving the post in drafts for weeks, because you keep missing ‘the perfect time’ to post (spoiler: there isn’t really a perfect time).

This is all time that could be better spent on working on the next piece of content.

Social media is fast-paced. Whilst you want quality and consistency in your content, and a certain level of effort is required, don’t forget that things move quickly on platforms. Sometimes you just need to let go of the perfectionism and hit publish.
